“Their sturdy backs bent down, by labor and fatigue, their eyes intent upon the earth, sift through stubble discarded by the reapers.”

Our Mission:
To seek out and advocate for the poor and needy, especially families, for the Kingdom of God since 1872

Celebrating Our Legacy
Past

As Gleaners, we stood at the edge of society where Christ was encountered in word, silence, and action as the power of His Kingdom pushed out the boundaries of our world. We have been recognized by our simplicity of life and visible presence among the most abandoned.

Celebrating Our Legacy
Present

Our mission as Gleaners is to serve segments of the population who are underserved by Church and social institutions. As we celebrate this time in our history, our ministries will focus on children, homelessness, food insecurity, immigrants, refugees, and healthcare.

Sunday Scripture Reflection for June 8, 2025
Pentecost Sunday

When I walk to work, I pass by an area where low-lying fan palm fronds hang down over the sidewalk, so close that I have to lean away to avoid them. Lately I have been tapping a little tune on the fans as I go by, and it’s uniquely satisfying. It reminds me of the sound of balloons bumping together when they’re gathered into a bunch. The sound made me happy, but I wasn’t sure why; there was a connection, but I couldn’t quite place it. And then — you know how these things happen! — I remembered! Many years ago I had a conversion experience, suddenly started believing in God, and when I walked down the street in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines, the next morning, the palm trees were bumping together in quite the same way, making little drumming noises, and today’s palm drumming brings back all the happiness of that first day of renewing an acquaintanceship with God. The Holy Spirit strikes again! You never know when or where it will happen, but it’s always a delight! Happy Pentecost!
